Frankenwheat: The Real Reason Wheat is Toxic

I’m sure by now you’ve heard of “gluten-free”. I remember early on in my journey with Crohn’s and auto-immune disease, a family friend gave me a gluten-free care package. It was full of these packaged foods that didn’t look appetizing at all and were full of processed sugar to accommodate for the lack of taste. Even though gluten-free is a “must” standard for you and your family, you also “must” know what else is in that package of gluten-free food. It might be gluten-free but still has GMO’s, natural flavors, preservatives and worst of all, added sugar.

Our society is riddled with diseases and the rate of increase is staggering. It’s crucial for you to understand why and what you can do about it. The information below is intended for you to take personally and evaluate your own diet and health. It starts with you if you want to live a vibrant, healthy life as God intended for us. You owe it to your family and foremost, yourself!

What Is Gluten?

Let’s start by understanding what gluten is. defines gluten as “a general name for proteins found in wheat, rye, barley, and triticale. Gluten helps foods maintain their shape, acting as a glue that holds food together.” This definition barely touches the surface of what gluten is and what it does to your body. Gluten is a naturally occurring substance.

Most people have the mindset that if you don’t have Celiac, you don’t need to worry about gluten. Not true! The truth is wheat is the culprit and gluten is a subsidiary of it. We should all be concerned about it and should eliminate them from our diet.

But Wheat is Healthy for Us, Right?

That used to be true before the food industry and agribusiness started genetically modifying wheat. Today you’re not eating wheat, you’re eating a GMO product that was designed to kill bugs and resist pesticides. Your body cannot digest it and in turn, it leaves undigested particles in your gut, creating a permeable colon, which in turn causes an immune reaction to that area to get rid of it. If you continue to eat them, it’s just a matter of time before you develop an auto-immune disease. Read my articles on Leaky Gut Syndrome for more info. What is Leaky Gut Syndrome, What Causes Leaky Gut?

Take a look at this picture of real wheat vs. GMO wheat. The wheat on the left is Einkorn wheat. (Eaten in Biblical times) The wheat on the right is “Dwarf” or hybridized wheat.

Gluten in Cosmetics, Hair and Body Products

Wheat is in everything now. Even cosmetics, hair products, soap, cleaners, lotions and so much more. You might be thinking, “so what if it’s in our products. I’m not going to drink shampoo”.  I thought this way previously and now I know that your skin absorbs everything that goes on it. Almost instantly, your skin begins to absorb the chemicals into the blood stream. However, modern medicine still doesn’t have “solid” proof that gluten can be absorbed by the skin. The problem is that science hasn’t been able to differentiate the internal inflammation from external (IE: rashes). After looking more into this, it comes down to the fact that no actual relevant studies have been done on it. Make the best choice for you and not what they tell you to do.

Wheat and Illness

What does obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, dementia, ADHD, neuropathy, headaches, depression, auto-immune disease and so many other modern ills have in common? You guessed it, WHEAT! Yes, gluten is a real problem. But the problem is not just gluten.

Sadly, this tsunami of chronic illness is increasingly caused by eating our beloved diet staple, bread, the staff of life, and all the wheat products hidden in everything from soups to vodka to lipstick to envelope adhesive.” Dr. Mark Hyman MD [1]

The biggest problem is wheat which is the major source of gluten in our diets. The history of wheat parallels the history of chronic disease and obesity across the world. The National Center for Heath Statistics shows how obesity has risen with the increased consumption of wheat in the following graph.

Why is it that wheat is causing this trend of obesity? Two slices of whole wheat bread raise your blood sugar more than two tablespoons of table sugar. (Read Sugar Part 1 and Sugar Part 2)

There is no difference between whole wheat and white flour here.  The biggest scam perpetrated on the unsuspecting public is the inclusion of “whole grains” in many processed foods full of sugar and wheat giving the food a virtuous glow.  The best way to avoid foods that are bad for you is to stay away from foods with health claims on the label.  They are usually hiding something bad.

In people with diabetes, both white and whole grain bread raises blood sugar levels 70 to 120 mg/dl over starting levels.  We know that foods with a high glycemic index make people store belly fat, trigger hidden fires of inflammation in the body, and give you a fatty liver leading the cascade of obesity, pre-diabetes, and diabetes.

This problem now affects every other American and is the major driver of nearly all chronic disease and most our health care costs. Diabetes now sucks up one in three Medicare dollars. The rate of increase in diabetics increased 41% from 2007 to March 6th, 2013! [2]

The scientific community doesn’t believe wheat and sugar have anything to do with the increase in type 1 and 2 diabetes. What’s not mentioned is these same scientists believe that GMO wheat is 100% healthy and harmless to humans. Coincidence? You decide.

By the way, a scientist named Norman Borlaug, the founder of GMO wheat won the Nobel prize for doing so. He promised to feed millions of starving people around the world. Well, he did and made them fat and sick.

The fact is, there is so much evidence against GMO or “Frankenwheat” as I call it, that it won’t be long before the scientific community has no choice but to admit they’ve been using humans as their lab experiments.

Our Children

The effects of wheat are not just isolated to adults. Our children diets consist primarily of wheat products laced with added sugar. Cereals, bread, oats (often processed with wheat contaminating them), pizza, donuts, pasta, flour, sauces, fried foods, imitation cheese, etc. The list goes on and on. We have to start making healthy meals for our kids. It starts with parents.

Parents, we buy the food, therefore we make the choices.

Heart disease is the 2nd leading cause of death for our children. Can you guess what number 1 is? Cancer is now the #1 cause of childhood death by disease for our children! [3] Cancer! Can you believe that?

The good news is we, the parents, have the power to stop this.

It can be hard to accomplish this, but it can be done with some simple guidelines. No prepackaged, boxed, fast, sugary foods. Avoid wheat products and look for gluten free, NON-GMO products with no added sugars. You want to keep their bodies (and yours) from more than 2 tablespoons of sugar per day. Smoothies using organic frozen berries is a great example for a healthy breakfast. Look at some of my recipes at the top of the page for more examples. Every recipe I post is low-glycemic and gluten-free.
